Hurmanu 1 work/ NZ wars

Hi, guys welcome back to my blog. Today for Hurumanu 1 we were watching one of the Aotearoa history shows, and after we watch the video we had to give a summary of the video. In this video, there was a lot of information and I suggest if you guys have spare time you should go and watch it because it has a lot of facts information.

Summary!

Today we were watching the Aotearoa history show the Nz wars episode 6 part 2.  In 1862 someone said that they saw a version of an angel saying that the Maori should own the land.  At this time the Maori people thought that the government of the British people were spying on them and they were ready to fight. The British government sent over military soldiers to Nz to guard so the Maori couldn't get in.

In 1846 the M killed 7 of the soldiers from British. The British people thought that the Moari hated all of them because the Moari killed the missionaries and so they just used that as an excuse. in 1865 there were bloody battles, 300 to 400 Pamela got sent to the Chatham Islands. The British military had found out about the Maori tactics. Tekote had been sent to the Chatham Islands and had started another religion.

There was a new leader for Paimarie fighting genius and his name was Te Toku but the thing is he didn’t want to fight but he had to. One of the people killed was a famous person. some of the British thought they could exterminate the Maori. The British were offering a bounty if they killed a certain person. 120 Paimarie were killed in the war and their bodies were left on the rocks to rot in the hot summer. By 1872 the Nz wars were basically over, Nearly 300 thousand people died and 200 thousand were Maori.

In 1863 the land was illegally confiscated from Maori. Scared hills were quarried and Most northlands were turned into pakeha land. It wasn’t about the land that they were fighting about it was the fact that the land had so much spirit.

Thank you so much for reading my blog post. I hope you learnt something about the Nz wars. Leave a comment if you know any other information about the NZ wars. Have a good day

Matariki!

Hi, guys welcome back to my blog. For the past two weeks in Maori, we have been learning about Matariki and the task that we had to do is find information about Matariki and then put it in our own words, we also had to write what does Matariki is to us.

Matariki

Matariki only comes out once a year And the best time to see it is in the morning from 1am to 3am. There are about 500 stars in the Matariki cluster, but only six or seven are visible without a telescope.
Matariki has Nine stars.  Matariki, Tupuārangi, Waipuna-ā-Rangi, Waitī, Tupuānuku, Ururangi, Waitā, Pōhutukawa and Hiwa-i-te-Rangi. Ururangi is the youngest star in the Matariki cluster.
Matariki is a time to harvest food and Matariki also signals the Maori new years.
2000
The first modern-day Matariki celebrations took place in Hawkes Bay in the early 2000s. Around 500 people took part in that first festival but by 2003 numbers had risen to 15,000. Matariki has continued to play an important role in the life of modern-day Maori and New Zealanders.

Mahinga Kai!

Hi, guys welcome back to my blog. For today's blog, I am going to be sharing the tasks that I have been doing for reading. For reading the book I have been reading is called Mahinga kai. The book is mainly about two Ngai Tahu men that are determined to keep the tradition, And its also about where they get their food from.

If I was to rate this book I would rate it A 9/10, because I love it how two men are still trying to keep the tradition going, and also I like how they all take care of each other and share their kai with there whanau and friends.

Making Biltong!

Hi, guys welcome back to my blog. Today's blog is going to be about Science. In Science, we have been doing instructional writing. We have been using instructional to write out instructions On how you make Biltong.  If you didn't know what Biltong it is basically dry meat. In my opinion, it was hard understanding what to do or write but once I got more into the writing I understood more about what I had to do.

In the process of making the Biltong. The people who finish their instructions, they got to make Biltong first, And the people who didn't finish their instructions they got to do it the following week. In that way, no one missed out on making Biltong.
Also when we were making Biltong the teachers had to cut the meat for us for safety reasons.

Materials/Equipment
  • Plastic Bowl
  • Chopping board
  • Paperclip or hook
  • Knife

Ingredients
  • Sugar
  • Coarse salt
  • 1 strip of meat

Instructions
  1.  Write out the step-by-step instructions

  1. Get all of your equipment.
  2. In the same bowl add a small handful of salt and sugar then mix.
  3. Next, get your meat and sprinkle a pinch of the salt mixture on one side of the meat.
  4. Then turn the meat over and sprinkle a pinch of the salt mixture on that side of the meat.
  5. Hang your biltong on a string line with a peg.
  6. Leave the meat hanging for 3 days in a dry cooling spot.
  7. When it is hard and dry you can eat it.

This will come to the end of this blog post. I am really excited to share the results with you guys because I have never made Biltong or eaten it before. I will make another blog post on the results of the Biltong because we have to wait for 3 days for the meat to dry out.

How much sugar is in Our drinks?

Hi, guys welcome back. For today's blog, I am going to be blogging about Health/math. So for health/math we have been learning about how much sugar is our drinks. So what we had to do first was write down in our math books how much sugar we think is in our drinks like for example, we had to guess how much teaspoons of sugar are in a bottle of coke and my group guessed 16 tsp, and the answer was 18 -20 tsp. For the activity, we had to for example in a sports drink there was 14 tsp so in 1 bag we had to add 14 tsp and if one bag wasn't big enough we had to use 2 bags.

Our guess!

  1. Bottle of coke  16 tsp - Answer 18 - 16 tsp
  2. Energy drinks 20 tsp - Answer 14 tsp
  3. Sports drink 18 tsp - Answer 14 tsp
  4. powdered drinks 12 tsp - Answer 6 tsp
  5. Fruit juice 8 tsp  - Answer 8 tsp
  6. Flavored milk 10 tsp -  Answer 6 tsp

Here are two pictures of what we did!

Conclusion:
I was really surprised by how much sugar is in our drinks. I really thought that there was less sugar in fizzy drinks and juice but now that I know that there is a lot of sugar in fizzy drinks and juice, I am going to drink less fizzy drinks and juice.

Thank you for reading my blog post have a good day!
